MML Pricing

MML is not free software. It has taken a lot of effort to develop the Flash movie and server back end. It also requires an ongoing data feed of up-to-date weather data from the Weather-Watch.com server.

There are two versions of MML, one integrated with Weather Display Live (WDL-MML) and a standalone version (standalone MML). WDL-MML has many of the features of standalone MML, however it is not anticipated that the MML features in WDL-MML will be developed significantly in the future.

Existing registered users of WDL can upgrade to WDL-MML at no cost. However, they will still have to subscribe to the MML data feed, which will attract an annual charge. WDL users wishing to upgrade to standalone MML and all other users will need to purchase, at a one-off cost, a licence to use the standalone version.

All users of WDL-MML and standalone MML must subscribe to a MML data feed (MML will not function without a subscription to the feed). There is a annual charge for using this feed.

Users of the Weather Display software can opt to make the contents of their clientraw.txt (and associated files) available to the MML data service. The MML service will read the clientraw.txt (and associated files) every 15 minutes to gather detailed weather data from the station. This option is free, but requires you to register to use the MML Management Centre.

The MML data feed cannot provide unlimited access without setting the price so high as to make it too expensive for most people. Therefore each annual subscription will allow up to 365,000 data access requests per year (you get an extra free 1000 access requests in a leap year!) A data access request occurs each time a user loads MML from your web site, refreshes your MML page and, if the user keeps MML displayed, every 15 minutes after loading the MML page. The number of data access requests provided should be sufficient for most user sites. If you run out of access requests within the year, it will be possible to purchase a further package of access requests. Unused access requests do not roll over from year to year. Users expecting to require significantly more access requests than are provided should contact the MML developers to discuss rates for larger volumes.

All minor upgrades to MML will be free. Major upgrades may also be free, although if significant extra functionality is added to MML, or newer versions of MML have significantly increased bandwidth requirements, the developers reserve the right to charge an upgrade fee or increase the annual data feed charge.
